Local Fianna Fail TD, Frank O’Rourke, has welcomed the decision of Intel to seeking planning permission for a new chip manufacturing plant at its headquarters in Leixlip.
‘Intel Ireland is determined to stay in the race for an estimated $4 billion new chip-manufacturing facility at its headquarters in Leixlip by lodging a planning application with Kildare County Council.’
‘Intel’s parent company in the US has yet to decide where it will set up the new manufacturing plant. Ireland is competing with other locations, most notably Israel, to land the investment. It is very positive that Intel Ireland have now lodged this planning application to assist with securing this investment.’
‘BREXIT and the election of Donald Trump as the next US president, is giving rise to some concern regarding multi-nationals based here. Our country is lucky to have many selling points to attract Foreign Direct Investment to Ireland, ‘ stated Deputy O’Rourke.
‘We have a low corporate tax, a flexible and well educated workforce, relatively calm industrial relations and a pro-enterprise approach to enable businesses perform successfully.’
‘Intel Ireland is a great employer and I look forward to supporting their planning application,’ concluded Deputy O’Rourke.
