Plans to Solve Traffic Congestion at the Bridge in Celbridge — Underway

cill droichid copy (Small)

At our meeting today the following has been agreed to progress in relation to the Liffey Bridge in Celbridge and the associated junction in an effort to improve travel times. I am pleased to give you the following positive update. This is a major issue for Celbridge for many years now and I have made this a priority of mine.

New Bridge: It was agreed that Kildare County Council Transport Department would progress to looking at Route Selection. This is the starting point of a long process which will look at and consider all options. Once this is complete the Council will report back. A complex process such as a New Bridge can only be progressed in stages.

Short Term Solution: The first phase of this is been progressed. It is proposed to restrict traffic from turning right at the junction after the bridge to assist in alleviating tail backs and congestion. This means as you exit Celbridge heading out the Dublin Road that you will not be able to turn right up the Hazelhatch Road or down the Ardclough Road. The full details of this proposal will go through a public consultation process known as a section 38. Drawing etc. will display the proposed traffic routes and movements.

A safety audit has to be carried out on this proposal before progressing it to a public consultation process. If the safety audit doesn’t  highlight any concerns then we are on the “road” to delivering long over due improvements at this location. This is a proposal I have been suggesting for some time and I am delighted to see the Council is now progressing it. This is a great opportunity to deliver change. I put this on the May Municipal District Meeting agenda to give it traction as did my colleague Cllr. Byrne.

I hope this can progress now as it is time the people of Celbridge see action. The next phase once this is complete is to put in new footpaths and cycle ways on either side of the bridge, remove the existing footpath from the bridge and straighten the parapets (walls) on the bridge. This proposal will also have to go through a design and public consultation process known as a part 8.

Road Re-Surfacing works to Commence

photo 1 (Small)

I am delighted to see that English Row in Celbridge is been re-surfaced next week (20th July). This work will be carried out at night time. In addition to this re-surfacing work, repairs will be carried out to the footpath and kerbs around the entrance to the Mill. I put down motions to the Council to have these works carried out. This is very positive and it is great to see all these improvements been carried out.

In addition to the above, re-surfacing works will be carried out in Willowbrook Lawns, Oldtown Road and in Dara Court. This will make a big difference to the Residents and all those that use our road network. I will continue to press Kildare County Council for further funding to enable these type of projects to be progressed and completed. I want to thank the Area Office Staff for their assistance on these issues.

Projects Delivered from L.P.T. Funding

unnamed[1]

Despite the opposition from some quarters to the policy of securing LPT Funds for community and local works, I am delighted to have supported this policy and the benefits are now for all to see. Projects that are benefiting from the Fund are:

  1. New Pedestrian Crossing on the Hazelhatch Road in Celbridge. (Beside Wolstan Abbey)
  2. New footpath from Lishandra to Lock 13 Lane in Ardclough.
  3. New Pedestrian Crossing on the Clane Road in Celbridge. (Beside St. Raphael’s and Abbey Farm)
  4. Funding provided for Tea Lane Graveyard project.
  5. New Street Lighting along the stream in the green area of Vanessa Lawns & Close.
  6. Traffic Calming to be installed in the Celbridge\Leixlip M.D.
  7. Footpath repairs in estates such as Leixlip Park.
  8. Contribution towards phase 3 of the Eircom under-grounding.
  9. Many other Community projects funded in the Celbridge\Leixlip M.D area

New Benches Installed on Celbridge Main Street

1-CelbridgeBenches

I am delighted to have worked with Celbridge Tidy Towns and Kildare County Council in securing funding to have two benches installed on the Main Street of Celbridge.

The benches are Stainless Steel and are of the highest standard. They look great and are installed on the footpaths on each side of the street near the wonderful Arthur Guinness Statue. These benches provide a very nice facility for people to sit on, have a chat and rest. They enhance the street scape in addition to all the recent work which I have requested the Council to carry out.

These projects include cleaning the chewing gum of the footpaths, removing the redundant parking signs and poles and the removal of the Eircom wires and poles which were long overdue and is now complete. The Main Street looks great and thanks to the Council Area office and staff for their great work.

It is a pleasure to work along side the Tidy Towns.

Yet Another Nail in the Coffin of Irish Water’s Credibility

flowing tap

Irish Water announced today that it has collected just 46% of the money due to it from water customers. Not an extra cent is being spent on water infrastructure above the €550m per annum Fianna Fáil spent in Government and it looks like less will now be available for investment in water infrastructure due to the costs of setting it up and poor collection rates.

Surely its time to wind-up the new quango before it loses even more money for the hard pressed Irish Tax-Payer.

Bridge Study Complete – Time for Action

_MG_2221a

The feasibility study on the Liffey Bridge in Celbridge is now complete. It has been published and available to read in detail on the Kildare Co Co website www.kildarecountycouncil.ie

I have discussed in detail the findings of this report with an in-studio interview on KFM. There are seven options in total. Five of them deal with the long term solution which is the different locations for a new bridge and one option details an immediate solution. I have made submission to this report and engaged with the consultants together with Kildare County Council in delivering an immediate solution.

Long Term Solution: Five locations are identified for a new bridge with the preferred option been a bridge at the St. Raphael’s Clane Road car park taking the traffic away from the town. Any new bridge option will take some time to consider and deliver due to all the different detailed studies and designs that are required and not to mention the funding. However we must not wait for a new bridge to reduce the traffic delays as we can implement improvements now as I have set out below.

Immediate Solution: I have done a detailed submission in this regard with the Tidy Towns to reduce traffic delays at peak times in Celbridge at the bridge and associated junctions. I have met with the C.E.O and Director of Services on this proposal which will have a positive consequence. The Council will be progressing this option. I hope by the end of August 2015 traffic will be restricted from turning right after you cross the bridge heading for Dublin which will reduce the tail-backs. This option is also covered in the RPS report. I believe this is worth trialling. If this has a positive effect I have discussed with the council that they do a design and go to public consultation on removing the current footpath of the bridge and putting a new walk and cycle path on the Mill side of the existing bridge. This can be free standing or supported of the bridge. This will then give full safety to the vulnerable road user. This immediate solution will improve the current problems and delays. I hope that real improvements are now on the way and they are deliverable. I will keep this issue as one of my main priorities for Celbridge.

Extra Services on Route 67X needed

DB

I have been in contact with senior management in Dublin Bus this week to put extra services on the Celbridge Bus Route to and from Dublin, Route 67X, following a meeting with a number of Bus commuters in recent days.

Over the last few days, a number of Dublin Bus commuters have made contact with me to put pressure on Dublin Bus to have extra Bus Services in the morning from Celbridge around 8.15am and returning from Dublin around 6.15pm.

As plans continue to restrict vehicular traffic entering Dublin City, we must continue to improve the level of services that are available on Public Transport routes. Last week, I met with Irish Rail to campaign for improvements to the rail timetable on Hazelhatch Routes. Following on from this representation, commuters have made contact with me in relation to the 67X  Bus Service.

There is a gap in the morning bus service and the evening return service to Celbridge. We must fill theses gaps to ensure they have a regular and reliable bus service. Countries that have a successful public transport model have public transport services that are regular, so that people do not have to wait long for a Bus or Train, and reliable so that people can rely on Timetable information supplied either using Apps or Real Time Information on Information Boards.

The 67X route is used by my own family  and it provides an important service for Celbridge. By removing the gaps in service, we will encourage more people to use this Bus Service.

Cllr. O’Rourke To Contest The Forthcoming General Election

FullSizeRender

On Friday the 26th June Fianna Fail invited me to contest the next General Election on their behalf in Kildare North. It is a great honour for me to get this invitation from the party. I look forward to the campaign ahead and I hope with the support of the people in Kildare North that I can represent them in the next Dail.

I will continue to work tirelessly on behalf of all and represent them to the best of my ability. There are a lot of challenges ahead and we must work to ensure that we have a fair and equal society as the economy recovers. I look forward to meeting the people of Kildare North in the months ahead and engaging with them.

Irish Rail Senior Management To Improve Evening Service

Commuter Train

North Kildare Councillor Frank O Rourke met with Senior Management of Irish Rail again this week to press for additional services for the Hazelhatch Rail commuters.

‘In recent months, I have put pressure on Irish Rail to improve the level of service for Hazelhatch rail commuters. In particular we need additional services leaving Dublin to service Hazelhatch between the time of 5.20pm and 5.55pm in the evening. This is a critical time for many Celbridge commuters who leave work in Dublin around 5.00pm. There is no excuse for such a gap to be left in the timetable, between the times of 5.20pm and 5.55pm.’

‘Since getting elected to the Council, I have made continuous representations to have the rail service improved. We have made progress. This week, I again left the Senior Management of Irish Rail in no doubt about the necessity to fill this gap in service in the evenings. I am confident that the management will resolve the issue and that the 2016 timetable will be more suitable for the Hazelhatch rail commuters.’

‘We need to continue to grow the numbers using the rail service. We will only do this by having a regular and reliable service. We also need a timetable that suit the many users of the service in the evening between 5pm and 6.00pm’

Shop Local Campaign Launched for Celbridge

IMG_0007 (Small)

As a member of the CBA committee I was delighted to have been involved in launching this Shop Local Campaign. The poster slogans and designs were organised by chairperson Pat Byrne. It is very important that local business is supported at every opportunity to make sure the local economy thrives and jobs are maintained.

Local businesses give a great service and supply a great choice of products, not to mention the friendly and welcoming atmosphere. All the businesses are displaying the “Shop Local” posters in an effort to remind us all to shop local as regular as possible.

The local businesses support all the community groups as much as they can so we all need to “Keep it Local”. There is a fantastic response from the public to this campaign.
