People Left Waiting Months On End For Physiotherapy At Naas Hospital

Naas Gen_Fianna Fáil General Election candidate for Kildare North Cllr Frank O’Rourke has called on the Government to address the growing waiting lists for services at Naas Hospital.

Cllr O’Rourke pointed out that patients are currently expected to wait for weeks on end for physiotherapy and other important services at the hospital.

“Waiting lists for hospital services have been on the rise ever since this Government came to power. The latest national figures show that over 13,000 people are waiting in excess of 18 months for an outpatient appointment. Meanwhile close to 60,000 patients are waiting more than a year for an appointment,” said Cllr O’Rourke.

“Naas Hospital has been particularly hit by this problem. I have spoken to numerous people from Naas and the surrounding area who have raised this with me. They report dissatisfaction with the long waiting times they are expected to endure for services at the hospital. Physiotherapy is particularly in demand and many people report that they have been waiting up to six months to access services at the hospital.

“It’s completely unacceptable that people are forced to wait for months to access physiotherapy. The patients who need physiotherapy are in constant pain and urgently need access to services to aid them in rehabilitation. It’s no use telling these people that they will have to wait 28 weeks or more before getting the treatment they need.

“Some patients needing physiotherapy have been advised to try and access similar services in Dublin. However many of these people, especially older people, find it difficult to access these services as they are way outside of their communities.

“The staff at Naas Hospital are doing their best with scarce resources. There is only so much they can do considering the Government is starving the hospital of the resources it needs. I’m calling on the Government to step up to the plate and ensure that Naas Hospital is adequately funded to help drive down these excessive waiting times,” said Cllr O’Rourke.

Boston Road Treatment Plant Upgrade – Delivered

IMG_1020 (Small)

I am delighted that the final phase of the Boston Road Treatment Plant upgrade in Ardclough is now completed. I have been working on this project for over three years with the Residents of Boston Road. This has been an issue for twenty years and it is now great to see that it is complete. It will have a positive impact for the Residents connected into the scheme and the Residents in the surrounding area.

I worked with the Residents and Kildare County Council to ensure phase one of this very important upgrade was carried out and completed over twelve months ago. The last and final phase of this project is now delivered. This is a positive outcome for the Residents of Boston Road in Ardclough. I am pleased to have worked with them, Kildare County Council and the local land owners to ensure this long overdue project was completed. I want to thank all concerned and the Residents for bringing this issue to my attention. I look forward to continuing to work with the people of Ardclough on other projects.

NEW ANTI-SKID SURFACING DONE IN STRAFFAN.

straffanI very much welcome the new anti-skid surfacing which has been carried out in Straffan by Kildare County Council. This was an issue raised with me by many people in Straffan while canvassing recently.

The Residents and members of the public had concerns and were looking to have this work carried out at this location. I hope now, this will improve driver awareness and safety for all. I want to thank K.C.C for carrying out this work and the many people who raised this issue with me.

I look forward to continuing to work with you all. Please feel free to contact me on any local or national issue.

Radical Action Needed To Address Kildare Housing Needs

1171544_xl (Small)Fianna Fáil General Election candidate for Kildare North Cllr Frank O’Rourke is calling on Kildare County Council to allocate land banks in its possession for the construction of social housing. Cllr O’Rourke says such a measure would allow the local authority to work alongside private partnerships in order to increase its housing stock and provide much needed accommodation for people at risk of becoming homeless.

“We are in the midst of a serious housing crisis and the predictions are that the number of people needing accommodation will outstrip supply for the coming years. This crisis has already led to an increase in the number of people living in emergency accommodation in Kildare, and the lack of housing supply has led to a major spike in rents,” said Cllr O’Rourke. “

From meeting with people on the campaign trail it’s perfectly clear to me that housing is one of the greatest concerns for the public. People feel that not enough is being done to overcome the crisis. This is understandable when you consider the fact that there are currently 6,681 on the housing waiting list and the number is growing by the day. “Only 11 new houses were added Kildare County Council’s housing stock between 2011 and 2014. This is down from 791 houses which were provided to people on housing waiting lists between 2007 and 2010. The Government is failing in its obligation to provide quality and affordable housing to people in need. “Kildare County Council is finding it difficult to get to grips with the housing crisis in the face of rapidly rising demand.

I firmly believe that there needs to be a co-ordinated public-private partnership effort to help boost housing supply in the county. I am calling on our local authority to allocate land banks for housing, and to bring in outside expertise in order to speed up the design and construction process. This needs to be backed up with firm financial support from Government.”

Another New Project In the Pipe-Line For Celbridge.

00221 (Small)I am currently working on a delivering another new project for Celbridge with Kildare County Council and the Tidy Towns. This project involves designing and developing a plan for a public garden/park in the current open and disused space on Maynooth Road beside “Arthur Guinness Welcome To Celbridge” cut stone and Crodaun phase two.

I have been working on this project with the different stakeholders for the last 18 months. In April of this year at the site we narrowed down the options which was sketched up by local sculpturer Jarlath Daly. The final design concept for this space was agreed at a meeting in August with the Tidy Towns, K.C.C and myself. The Council has now agreed to fund a full design proposal etc for the Park/Garden at this location. Once the design is completed I will engage with the Crodaun Residents Association so they can also have an input. Once it is all agreed it can then go to tender, during this time I will work with K.C.C to source funding.

This will be an excellent project for Celbridge once completed. It will give a lovely impression at the entrance to the town while giving this space an identity and a focal point. This project once completed will have the same significance for the town as other towns get from their town squares. It will also be a nice location for all the people which use this very busy walking route.

So more great plans lie ahead………  watch this space……. great things to come…….!!!!!!

Govt. Betrayal On Prescription Charges Continues

41709510_sFianna Fáil General Election candidate for Kildare North Cllr Frank O’Rourke has accused the Government of continuing to betray medical card holders following the announcement of Budget 2016.

Cllr O’Rourke pointed out that Fine Gael and Labour have overseen a five-hold increase in prescription charges despite promising to abolish them altogether four years ago.

Many people took former Minister for Health James Reilly at his word when he promised to abolish prescription charges in 2011. Instead he decided to treble the charge to €1.50 in 2013, and then added another euro a year later, bringing the charge to €2.50 per item. This massive hike in prescription charges is particularly cruel on many older people who rely on medication on a daily basis.

Fine Gael and Labour insisted that economic circumstances meant it was necessary to triple prescription charges, despite independent analysis showing that there were fairer options open to the Government at the time. However again people took the Government at its word, but they are angry to realise that they have been betrayed yet again.

The Government had the option to abolish these deeply unfair prescription charges as part of Budget 2016. However they decided not to do this and haven’t even reduced the charge by one cent. It’s deeply disappointing for countless older people who were hoping that this unfair charge would be lifted as part of the budget.

“I am calling on our Government TD’s here in Kildare to speak some sense to their Ministers. This charge is continuing to cause deep upset amongst medical card holders and it should be abolished without any further delay,” said Cllr O’Rourke.

New Approach Needed To Deal With Issues

IMG_0130 (Small)

A new approach is required to deal with issues facing people if a fairer society is to be achieved according to Cllr Frank O’Rourke speaking after he was launched as a Fianna Fail candidate in Celbridge, attended by over 300 people, on Friday September 25th. Recently Cllr O’Rourke was invited by the National Constituencies Committee of Fianna Fail to contest the next general election as a Fianna Fail candidate.

‘The Housing crisis, our health services, our crime rates, supports for older people, services for children with special needs, childcare and our public transport services are all issues that are coming up with me and my team on the doors.’

‘As we emerge from the recession, we need to ensure that we build a fairer Ireland and a fairer society. Services for the most vulnerable in society must ne provided and we must look at new ways of doing business and new ways of providing these services.’

‘The cutbacks in recent years to Special Needs Assistants, the reduced supports for our older people and the lack of Garda resources have affected the most vulnerable, disproportionally. The OECD reports on recent budgets have highlighted the unfair impact it had on the less well off. I am committed to delivering a fairer recovery and will continue to raise the issues that affect Kildare citizens.’

‘I was delighted with the support that I received at my launch. Having over 300 people participating at my launch has given me great affirmation for the challenge that lies ahead. People know my work ethic and know my commitment for public service. I look forward to working with all concerned in the months and years ahead.’ Concluded Cllr O’Rourke.

Budget Offers Nothing To Households Struggling To Pay Rent

20688381_sFianna Fáil General Election Candidate for Kildare North Cllr Frank O’Rourke says he is disappointed that the Government has not introduced new measures in the budget to tackle the soaring cost of rent.

Cllr O’Rourke pointed out that the Government has done nothing to achieve rent certainty, despite Minister Alan Kelly committing just days ago to introduce new measures to that effect.

“It’s disappointing to see that the Government still isn’t taking the housing and rental crisis seriously. The latest figures show that rents have increased by 9% around the country and over 13% in Kildare since January alone. People in rented accommodation are struggling to meet persistently rising rents. Rents in Kildare could rise significantly over the next year due to the Fine Gael and Labours failure to introduce rent certainty measures,” said Cllr O’Rourke.

“The explosion in the cost of renting is as a result of the inability of this Government to take any policy action to address the growing housing emergency. The decision not to increase the rent supplement through this budget will simply put more families at risk of becoming homeless. Fianna Fáil has been pushing for an increase in rent supplements to help keep families in their homes, but unfortunately Fine Gael and Labour have decided to leave renters to fend for themselves.

“It makes little sense for the Government to leave the rent supplement unchanged when you consider this will force more people into emergency accommodation, which in turn costs the state significantly and causes untold damage and disruption to families. It’s a nonsensical approach and sums up this Governments haphazard response to the housing emergency.

“The lack of commitment to investing in housing is also extremely alarming. Fine Gael and Labour only delivered 11 new social housing units between 2011 and 2014. This has caused a national housing emergency with over 6,000 people stuck on housing waiting lists in Kildare alone. These people expected the Government to deliver a radical home building programme, but this has not happened.

“Fianna Fáil has unveiled a series of ambitious measures to tackle the housing and rental crisis. Our ‘Generation Rent – A New Deal for Rents’ policy document sets out a clear pathway to assisting families who are experiencing housing difficulties.

“Our Rent Certainty measures would reduce rent rises by restricting rents to area-based rental index both within and between tenancies. Our proposals would encourage long term leases to give tenants greater security in their occupancy and to allow families to consider renting as a longer term option.

“Fianna Fáil’s rent policy also confronts the homeless emergency by raising the rent supplement and keeping it under review. This would ensure new properties are opened up for vulnerable households. Critically it addresses the central long-term issue of supply and complements our national housing roadmap launched last April which outlined our plan to build 150,000 new homes by 2021,” said Cllr O’Rourke.

BREAKING NEWS EXTRA 67 DUBLIN BUS FROM CELBRIDGE TO MAYNOOTH

bus (Small)I’m delighted to inform the people of Celbridge and the surrounding area that there will be an additional 67 Dublin Bus service from Celbridge to Maynooth at 8.15am Monday to Friday. I received numerous requests from the public to help improve this service. This will assist the commuters who use Dublin Bus each morning and have found it very difficult in recent days and weeks due to the large numbers using this service. This will give all commuters that need to use this service at this time each day certainty and comfort for their journey.

We need to continue to invest and improve public transport to assist those that use it and to encourage more to use our public transport. Thanks to Dublin Bus for working with me on upgrading this 67 service on behalf of the public transport user.
UPDATES ON THE 67X TO FOLLOW.
