Celbridge Abbey Playground — Good News Update

IMG_1773

Celbridge Abbey Playground is now open on Saturdays from 9am to 4pm approx. and new equipment will be installed in the playground by the end of March. Seating benches and litter bins will also be installed. This is all very positive and good news for the people of Celbridge and the surrounding area. I was delighted to have been instrumental in having this playground re-opened to the public in May ’15. Many Celbridge Residents made this request to me and I was please to deliver for them with the full assistance and cooperation of St. Raphael’s and Kildare County Council.

The response from the public was so positive, they requested if the opening times could be extended and this is now in place. I also had a number of requests from Children between the ages of 7 and 12 to have equipment installed for them. I organised a survey in all primary schools in conjunction with K.C.C to get the input from the age profile that were making the requests to me. It is very important that Children are engaged, listened too and are part of the process. Based on the results of this survey the most popular piece of equipment will be now installed by the end of March. I want to thank the Schools for taking part in this important and worth while survey.

I want to thank you all for your engagement and thanks to St. Raphael’s and K.C.C for their assistance in making this project become a reality. I will continue to work on your behalf.

Good News For Kilcock Bus Eireann Commuters

IMG_0464 (Small)

Following my on-going representations to Bus Eireann for improved services on behalf of the Kilcock Commuter, I am delighted to give the following update which I received from Bus Eireann on Feb. 12th regarding an earlier morning service and extra capacity. This is good news.

I have been working on these issues over the last eight months which have been raised with me by Kilcock Residents while canvassing for the General Election on February 26th. These improvements are in addition to the already improved morning service which I worked to deliver in conjunction with the Kilcock Commuter. I will continue working on the outstanding issues which was raised with me regarding Bus Eireann and Irish Rail.

Capacity & New Double Deck Fleet

Bus Éireann introduced some new state-of-the-art 82 seater Double Deck coaches on the Kilcock / Dublin corridor at the end of January.

These new vehicles feature free wi-fi, power sockets, real-time passenger information, monitors and increased leg room.

As a result of introducing these vehicles, capacity has increased by 20%, which effectively eliminates the issue of full vehicles that we experienced on some evening peak services in 2015.

Earlier morning departure from Kilcock

I can confirm that the National Transport Authority & Bus Éireann are working on providing an earlier morning departure from Kilcock, within existing route resources.

It is hoped that a new early morning service will be operational from May 2016, something which I know many commuters will welcome.

Good News For Naas United Soccer Club

naas fc

I have been working with the committee of Naas United Soccer Club for the last six months in an effort to find them a facility for their club and members. In recent times they have had to move from there base and are operating from different locations which is not suitable or sustainable for the club. As I canvassed Naas for the upcoming General Election many parents asked if I could assist. I arranged a meeting with the Committee members so I could assist on this issue.

I am delighted to announce that working with the club and a local land owner over the last few months, that a temporary base for Naas United is now agreed for the next three years. This will give the club peace of mind and consistency for all there members, teams and supporters. The club will now have a base for all its games, training etc. as this was very important to secure for such a successful club. During these three years I will be actively working with the Committee to put in place a permanent location for the club. I have already engaged in this process.

I want to thank Naas United Committee and the local land owner for assisting in this process so positively to allow us reach this great outcome for the club. I look forward to continuing my work into the future with Naas United.

Construction Commences On The New Temporary Celbridge Community School

IMG_4069 (Medium)

It was great to visit the site at Mooretown on afternoon of the 2nd Feb. where the New Temporary Community School is been constructed for Celbridge. I have been highlighting for some time the pressure that was on families and students from Celbridge and the surrounding area who were trying to access post primary education. I have worked with many parents in trying to get their children to access an education locally that they are entitled to. This has been difficult for all due to capacity.

I have been meeting and making representations to KWETB to ensure this temporary School was put in place until the permanent one is delivered. I want to thank all the parents who have made contact and worked with me on this issue and all at the KWETB for ensuring delivery. The new temporary School will be in place for September 2016 or sooner if possible.

I am currently working with all and making progress to overcome the issues that is preventing the planning permission from being re-submitted for the new permanent Community School on the Hazelhatch road. A solution is deliverable and I will continue to work on your behalf until it is in place. Given the population and logistics  we need to get this project started urgently for Celbridge.

Poor Broadband Coverage In North West Kildare Still An Issue

images2

Fianna Fail’s General Election Candidate Cllr Frank O Rourke has again highlighted the poor broadband coverage in certain areas of North West Kildare around Carbury, Kilshanroe, Newtown and Broadford.

‘I appreciate that some progress has been made in recent years in relation to the Broadband coverage in rural areas. However not enough is being done to provide adequate broadband coverage, in terms of capacity and speed, in North West Kildare.’

‘Over the last year, I have raised the issue of poor Broadband coverage in North West Kildare with our communication spokesperson and with Eircom. The Government has promised that increased coverage would be provided, but many in North West Kildare have not seen any significant improvement.’

‘It is time that Broadband coverage is seen in a similar way as the supply of Electricity is seen. It is a crucial and essential service, and should not be dependent on where you live. At my clinics in Johnstownbridge, and in Carbury,  the poor broadband coverage in the area, still comes up.’

‘Existing businesses, new businesses and residents need a reliable and fast broadband service to operate in today’s climate, and it is time that we comprehensively address this issue for once and for all.’

‘I will continue to highlight this issue, with the Department of Communications and Eircom, until we address it.’ concluded Cllr O’Rourke.

Government Should Play A Greater Role In Supporting Residents’ Associations

Fianna Fáil General Election candidate for Kildare North Cllr Frank O’Rourke says the state should do more to support local Residents’ Associations in communities across Kildare.

Cllr O’Rourke commented, “Residents’ Associations play an important role in the upkeep of communities in towns and villages across Kildare. They step in and provide additional services to these areas such as street cleaning, grass cutting, wall painting and ensuring drains remain clean to help prevent flooding. These associations would be sorely missed if they suddenly disbanded.

“People feel that the level of service provided by local authorities has declined steadily in recent years, despite the introduction of additional taxes such as the Local Property Tax.   Meanwhile the Government are expecting Residents’ Associations to step up to the plate and contribute to services that local authorities are no longer in a position to provide.

“It’s important to recognise that these Residents’ Associations are voluntary bodies. People give up their own time to help maintain their local community. I believe that the Government should be doing more to support these Residents’ Associations. For example the Government should consider amending the tax laws to allow these associations to claim tax relief on dues paid by residents for the upkeep of their community. This would operate in the same way that charities can claim tax relief on donations.

“It’s time that the valuable work of Residents’ Associations is recognised. The very least the Government could do is introduce a tax relief scheme to encourage greater participation in these associations. It’s a win-win situation as it takes pressure off local authorities while at the same time ensuring good upkeep of communities,”

Roundabout at Hazelhatch Landscaped

1-O'RourkeDalyI am delighted that following my on-going representations to Kildare County Council the roundabout at Hazelhatch Train Station has been fully overhauled and landscaped. This was an issue which was raised with me by the Celbridge Tidy Towns, Local Residents and the General Public. The roundabout was in need of landscaping as it looked very poor and unsightly on one of the major approach roads into Celbridge and located beside Residents and the Train Station.

It is very important that projects like this is carried out to create the correct and positive impression of Celbridge and the surrounding area. As the landscaping matures the roundabout will look even better and will have a positive impact when the Tidy Towns judging is done later in the year.

I want to thank Kildare County Council for working with me to deliver this project. I will continue to look for funding and resources to ensure further works and projects are delivered for the Celbridge\Leixlip area and the Constituency.

Brilliant Turn Out At Public Meeting

IMG_1043

I want to extend a big thanks you to everyone who came along to the Public Meeting which was held in the Westgrove Hotel, Clane last night (Jan. 27th) on Education and Special Needs. The discussion and engagement was excellent with brilliant contributions coming from Parents who attended.

I was very happy to organise this meeting at the request of the many people that raised this issue with me while canvassing over the last seven months for the upcoming General Election. I have worked on this issue during my five years as a Councillor and as we discussed at length during the meeting we need to have proper input into policy by all and in particular parents so the funding can be allocated into the correct areas. It is important that all Children are treated equally and have the same opportunity and supports.

I want to thank all of last nights speakers and our chair Dr John Hillary. Thanks again to you the parents and members of the public for coming along and making the meeting the success it was. It would be my privilege to be your voice in the next Dail.

Rye River Brewery Creates 40 Extra Jobs in Celbridge and North Kildare

IMG_3698

Rye River Brewery is to be congratulated for creating an additional 40 jobs during the set-up and re-location of the Brewery to Celbridge. This is in addition to the 150 jobs that will be created when they are fully operational and the 100 construction jobs that will be created while developing and delivering there visitor centre, restaurant etc. This is excellent new for Celbridge and North Kildare to see close on 300 jobs been created at different stages by the Brewery. The Directors, Management and Staff of Rye River Brewery are to be highly complimented on this great achievement. Rye River Brewery is a real success story and all of this in just over two years. Well Done to all again…!!!

I am delighted to be working with the Brewery and to be involved in bringing this successful company to Celbridge and keeping it in Kildare. Once the full project is completed it will assist in bringing extra tourists to the area which will be very positive for the local economy. Kildare North has a number of very popular and well known attractions and the Brewery will now add to this list.

The Brewery will be operating and brewing its first brew very soon and I look forward to returning to their facility soon again to see this take place. They will also be launching a new beer and cider in March of this year. The brewery had a turnover of 12 million in 2015. Great News……… Congrats!!!!!

O’Rourke Condemns Cutback To Support Scheme For Children With Disabilities

download2Fianna Fáil General Election candidate for Kildare North Cllr Frank O’Rourke says the Minster for Health Leo Varadkar needs to intervene to ensure recent cutbacks to support schemes for children with disabilities are reversed.

Cllr O’Rourke made the comments after it was revealed that charities providing support for children with Down syndrome are facing cuts of up to 60% in Government funding.

“In recent weeks I have been contacted by concerned parents who have highlighted that charities operating the Early Intervention Home Teacher Programme here in Kildare are facing significant cutbacks. This programme is in place to support children with Down syndrome in accessing education,” said Cllr O’Rourke.

“This programme is vital as it offers a suitable pre-school service for Down syndrome children. It prepares them for the challenges they will face in primary school as a home teacher comes fortnightly for a one and a half hour session. It’s great for giving these children a sense of confidence before beginning primary school.

“These charities are being forced to implement these cutbacks as the HSE is starving them of the funding they need to keep the programme operating at full capacity. Parents of children with Down syndrome are very worried that the cutback could result in the eventual loss of the programme. That would be disastrous.

“Minister Varadkar needs to step in and ensure the HSE adequately funds these support programmes. It’s unacceptable that his Government is prioritising tax cuts for the wealthy while cutting supports for the most vulnerable in our society,” said Cllr O’Rourke.
